Workshops Without Borders Association (Ateliere Fără Frontiere – AFF)

Workshops Without Borders Association (Ateliere Fără Frontiere – AFF) is a Romanian non-profit organization, established in 2008, for the social, professional and civic insertion of vulnerable, excluded and marginalized people. AFF is part of SOS Group – International Action, a global network that works to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. The three main objectives of the association are:

  • The fight against social exclusion
  • Fight against waste and pollution
  • Building solidarity and local development

The mission of the association is to promote the integration of people in difficulty on the conventional labor market, such as: victims of violence, people with addictions, disabilities, long-term unemployment, custodial sentences, homelessness, school dropout, etc.

AFF helps people who have been labeled “non-employable” to take responsibility for their own lives. Once at AFF, they are no longer beneficiaries of social assistance in a passive and dependent way. The association helps them to transform from excluded and marginalized people into independent and worthy people! From passive beneficiaries, they become active, taxpayer citizens. In the period 2008-2020, AFF provided services and jobs to a number of 350 people in vulnerable situations.

Ateliere Fără Frontiere has created three social insertion enterprises through economic activity – the educlick workshop, the remesh workshop and the bio & co farm, where it offers personalized social support services, insertion counseling, psychotherapy and pedagogical support for skills training for people with multiple difficulties, employment (long-term unemployment, addictions, disabilities, school dropout, domestic violence, human trafficking, probation, custodial sentences, homelessness, etc.).

During the workshops, the AFF beneficiaries carry out the following activities, promoting a circular, solidary and sustainable economy:

  • ReconectEduclick Workshop: collection, dismantling and reconditioning of IT equipment, which is then donated to schools, libraries, museums and social institutions.
  • Remesh Workshop: collecting, cleaning and transforming banners donated by various media campaigns into unique, handmade products.
  • Bio & Co Farm: the production of 100% natural fruits and vegetables that the association delivers on a weekly subscription basis.
